FALL MUSICAL

The NHS Vocal Music Program produces the annual Fall Musical. The Musical employs the talents of students on stage and behind the scenes, parents and volunteers who help with sets and costumes, and student and community musicians and crew members.

The 2020-21 Musical has been CANCELLED. And due to lack of interest/participation, there will NOT be a Variety Show in its place.

2019 Fall Musical --
Disney's My son pinocchio: Geppetto's musical tale

Picture
MY SON PINOCCHIO is in the books! The Cast and Crew consisted of 50 students, plus adults. With the help of NHS English Teacher Mary Norris, Art Teacher Deanna Hurst, Woods Teacher Trey Jones, and Metals Teacher John Close, a grand total of more than 100 NHS students had a hand in the production of this year's musical. Opening night was nearly sold out, and the Sunday matinee was a very full house as well! Thanks to everyone from the USD 309 community that came to support our students. We had a wonderful, magical weekend!

Small Ensemble -- The Fairies: Kora Borders, Kennedy Davis, Makenna Dodson, Jolie Shultz, Kylee Stucky

This year's production of CHANGING MINDS took our Cast and audiences to the West Coast while we had snow on the ground here in the Midwest!  Over 40 students and several adults combined their talents and efforts to present this modern production about supernatural activity, prejudice, stereotypes, and learning new things.  We are so very thankful for our USD 309 community that supported this production with full houses both performances!

2016 Fall Musical -- GUYS & DOLLS

Picture
2016 was another record-breaking year with 40 students involved in the Cast and Crew of Guys & Dolls.  The largest audiences in five years laughed their way from New York City to Havana, Cuba and back.  Many first-timers and former Crew members joined the Cast, and the buzz around NHS is that even more students were hooked this year and will be coming back and bringing friends to auditions next year. Family, friends, community members, and Jester Judges loved the production, and the show received the following nominations from Music Theatre Wichita's Jester Awards Program: Outstanding Supporting Actor -- Michael Shea as Nicely Nicely Johnson; Outstanding Sound -- Sadie Liby; Outstanding Production Number -- Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat.  And, we came away with a 2017 Jester Award for Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat!!

2015 Fall Musical -- She Loves Me!

Picture
The 2015 production of She Loves Me! was the largest and most complex production in several years.  The cast featured over 20 student performers, a larger crew and orchestra, and a set that unfolded to reveal the inside of Maraczek's Parfumerie.  Our production of this cult classic musical earned Jester nominations for two Outstanding Supporting Actors: Michael Shea as Mr. Maraczek and Lexi Zimmerman as Ilona Ritter.  Lexi went on to win a 2016 Jester Award for her performance.  With the energy and excitement of She Loves Me!, even more students auditioned and participated in the next year's musical.

2014 Fall Musical -- RAPUNZEL! RAPUNZEL! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale

Picture
Rapunzel was a show of many successes.  For starters, it was the first production performed with our updated digital lighting system installed in the fall of 2014.  Thanks to the efforts of many parents, community members, and students, the costumes and set design were more sophisticated than NHS has seen for several years! Audiences were the largest in several years as well.

Another huge success was 3 nominations for Jester Awards from Music Theatre of Wichita.  Dionne Timken was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in his role as Socrates the Dragon, Dana Sneed and our costume helpers received a nomination for their work, and our printed program received a nomination for Outstanding Graphic Design/Playbill.

2013 FALL MUSICAL -- GODSPELL

Picture

While NHS has produced this show in the past, the 2013 production of Godspell was a turning point for Musical Theatre at NHS.  An extremely talented cast came together to produce one of the most memorable shows ever.  The after-effects of this production resulted in more students auditioning for the 2014 show, renovations to our lighting system, and a more complex stage production in 2014 and subsequent years.  This cast and crew stole the hearts of the audiences and propelled NHS Musical Theatre forward!
